Subject:  “Save the Chapel” McClellan AFB

Dear Friends,

The purpose of this letter is to introduce you to our project of Saving the Chapel at the Old McClellan AFB along with its Meeting Center and Annex Building which sits on a 3.7 acre parcel of land including the parking lot.  Historically, these buildings have been used as a Military Nondenominational Chapel to support all Religious Services and also for all kinds of events for Military Units, Military Supporting Organizations of all services, and civic community organizations such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc. 

At the present time Sacramento County Supervisors have the control to save these buildings or to demolish them for other uses of the area.  Their newly published zoning plan Ordinance No. SZC-2002-0029 designates this area as Community Support Subdistrict.  This Ordinance specifically allows the continued use of existing buildings and further identified uses allowed within this Subdistrict which includes all of our projected uses.

We have been unable to get a commitment for purchasing this parcel from Sacramento County and their sales office of McClellan Park LLC.  They put us off saying they are not sure what the overall plans will be to develop this Subdistrict.  Our concern is to get their approval now allowing us to buy this parcel for the purpose of retaining the buildings and continue the uses as stated above.  If we do not get support from all the potential users of these facilities to voice their desires of “Save the Chapel McClellan AFB” our fear is that they will be demolished and we will forever lose this good chance to secure this wonderful site that our organizations desperately need.

07/19/2008   Our website was updated with additional names of supporters. Additional pictures were added and the pictures were renamed to be viewer friendly.

07/07/2008   This website was created to assist in the efforts to "Save the Chapel." The goal of this website is to educate the public regarding this small part of history that exists in its magnificence but is threatened by the "Wrecking Ball" if immediate steps are not taken to preserve her. Naturally, another goal of this website is to stimulate interest in the "Save the Chapel" movement and to solicit donations to help "Save the Chapel." From this point on this website will be referred to as "Or Website." It belongs to all of us who share this common goal of Saving the Chapel.  

07/05/2008   The creator of this website learned of the beautiful chapel that stands proudly in Sacramento, California. After reading the article in the Sacramento Bee he decided to join that small group of people who are working to "Save the Chapel."
